Why family photographs are so important and why you need to book your family portrait session

Photographs last forever…
When growing up and visiting my grandparent’s house, one of our favorite things to do was gather around and thumb through the large photo albums they had. There are 100 years worth of family photographs in these albums. They are a part of my family’s history, our legacy—they are our heirlooms. Being a photographer and a mother has really taught me the importance of photographs. Family portraits are so important because, essentially, this is how we tell our story when we’re no longer around to tell it ourselves.
Family is everything to me. I do not take photographing yours for granted.
My intention with family portraits and photographing family sessions is for them to be incredibly personal to you and the ones you love. They can be as formal or relaxed as you wish. I urge you to take the liberty of infusing your personality into your portrait session. This could be as simple as bringing your pets along, choosing a location that has a lot of meaning to you (such as your own backyard or front porch!), or even bringing along “props” that reflect who you are.
The feel you want your photographs to carry should be a reflection of who your family is as a whole.
For example, I wouldn’t suggest an outdoorsy, beach-loving family who surfs together to book a ballroom and wear a black-tie attire for their session. It just wouldn’t reflect their personalities. Instead, I would say, let’s meet on the beach and bring your surfboards for some shots! These photographs would be a much better reflection of who this family is.
I want the photographs that we create together to be the ones that end up in your family’s album.
The photos you will see below are a perfect example of who this little girl is. Notice how I didn’t try to contain her and sit formally? I wanted these photographs to feel natural, and effortlessly her, just running wild on the beach.
